A native of Mercer County, NJ, Bryan “Bucky” Boccanfuso has an extensive and distinguished career in law enforcement. Following in his father’s footsteps (Bucky’s father was a respected, retired Lieutenant with the Princeton Township Police Department), Bucky became a Communications Officer – first with the Princeton Township Police Department and then with the Robbinsville Township Police Department.
Bucky graduated from the Trenton Police Academy with the 75th Police Training Class. He served many roles within the Robbinsville Township Police Department including:
Patrol, Traffic Safety and Bike Unit
Criminal Investigation Unit
Arson Investigator
Alcoholic Beverage Control Officer
Detective
Special assignment to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Unit
State Delegate, Vice President and President – PBA Local #344
Bucky is an accomplished investigator with vast experience, including conducting background checks; interviewing, overseeing and managing crime scene investigations, and handling and processing evidence. He is well-versed in case management and was able to prioritize and multi-task on various cases while partnering with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and ultimately contributing to successful outcomes.
Bucky retired from the Robbinsville Township Police Department in 2015 as a detective. During his tenure, he received several accommodations and awards including Officer of the Year in 2010.
Bucky is currently in operations management in the biotechnology sector where he develops new procedures and manages both new and existing processes in several areas including in-house security. He is also a member of the Event Security Team in the Public Safety Department at Princeton University.
Bucky has been actively involved in the community for many years:
Served as a Volunteer Firefighter – Princeton, Plainsboro and Hamilton’s White Horse Fire Companies
Served as Lieutenant – Princeton Engine Company #1
Mentored and developed newly-hired officers in all roles and responsibilities while serving at the Robbinsville Township Police Department
Assisted with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in New Orleans
Volunteered at Fresh Kills Landfill, Staten Island, NY post 9/11
Served as the Executive Director of Robbinsville PAL Football
Instrumental in starting the Summer Police Youth Academy
Coached youth football and lacrosse
Volunteered with NJ Special Olympics
Bucky is the proud father of two teenage children. In his spare time, he enjoys the great outdoors with his dog, Mr. Pibbs, driving his jeep at Island Beach State Park, swimming, fishing, golfing and going to the shooting range.
Bucky’s broad and accomplished background, accompanied by his long-standing community involvement, demonstrate his ability to serve the residents of Mercer County and make a positive impact in the role of Mercer County Sheriff.
